Job Description
Hayat Brown is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our Operations Team, reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with applied accounting experience that includes experience with government contracting, cost reimbursable contracts, overhead cost accounting, and audit preparation and response. The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in managing the company’s financial and payroll operations, ensuring compliance with government regulations, and supporting day-to-day accounting functions.
Job Responsibilities:
The Senior Accountant at Hayat Brown provides financial insights, ensures compliance, and leads key accounting processes. Responsibilities include:
- General Ledger Management: Record and classify day-to-day transactions in QuickBooks; Maintain the General Ledger; Reconcile transactions and accounts in QuickBooks; Ensure accuracy and compliance of General Ledger with laws, regulations, and government auditing requirements.
- Accounts Receivable & Accounts Payable Management: Prepare and process invoices; Track and recover payments; Ensure accuracy and timeliness of payables; Reconcile accounts payable and receivable.
- Financial Reporting: Conduct month-end and quarterly close; Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements; Support year-end closing activities in coordination with Hayat Brown’s external accounting firm; Generate management reports for internal financial reviews; Facilitate monthly financial meetings.
- Government Contract Accounting: Manage cost-plus contracts by tracking and reporting allowable costs; Ensure compliance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and DCAA (Defense Contract Audit Agency) requirements for applicable company contracts.
- Indirect Cost Accounting & Audit Support: Develop and maintain indirect cost rates; Assist with overhead cost analysis and allocation; Support audit response activities related to government contracts.
- Documentation, Records Management & Compliance: Maintain financial records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable government contracting requirements; Ensure that all financial functions comply with applicable laws and regulations, including tax laws and financial reporting standards.
- Payroll Management: Process semi-monthly payroll to ensure that employees are paid on time and correctly; Ensure compliance with payroll tax regulations in coordination with Hayat Brown’s external accounting firm and payroll service provider.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of applied, progressive professional experience in accounting, with at least 3 years focused on government contracting
- Hands-on experience and proficiency with QuickBooks accounting software
- Experience with accounting in a professional services context/environment
- Experience with cost-plus contracts, indirect cost accounting, and related audits
- Exceptional organizational and analytical skills with a proven track record of identifying and resolving financial discrepancies
- Advanced knowledge of GAAP and compliance standards
- Expertise in financial modeling and advanced Excel functions
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial data to senior leadership and stakeholders
- Ability to work on-site 5 days per week in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification
- Familiarity with multiple accounting software platforms, such as, SAP, Deltek, Unanet, Procas, SAP, Oracle NetSuite, and experience with ERP systems
- Strong understanding of the FAR, familiarity with DCAA compliance, and Incurred Cost Submissions
- Familiarity with the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) accounting requirements.

Compensation
Expected salary range for this position is $80,000 to $120,000 per year, with potential for performance-based bonuses. Compensation is negotiable based on applicant skills and experience.
